The Book of Unknown Americans is an inspiring novel about the lives of immigrants. It will connect my students to immigrants from all over Latin America. The experiences of these characters will resonate with my classes as they learn about the struggles and successes involved with becoming an "American." In today's world, it is worthwhile for students to learn about the immigrants who come to this country for a better life. Their hopes and dreams for themselves and their families are no different from what we all want in life. As many of my students are immigrants themselves or have family members who have immigrated to this country, I want them to see this experience reflected in the literature they read in my class. My school does not have the funds to update our literary resources or to buy current books.
