Giving low-income students access to new technology is an investment in their future. Having the set of iPads will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. The way they will be used is as a World Culture center. Students will be able to take a virtual tour of different countries around the world. Students could take pictures of historical sites locally and report back to the class and build peer to peer learning. They could collaborate on group findings by sharing through the iCloud. Students will also be able to connect with other students around the world in other classrooms in other countries and explore their lives and culture. I could download apps for various social studies skills such as map skills, latitude and longitude, types of maps, and etc., which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students.
