We are respectfully requesting support to provide our students a once in a lifetime experience: meeting and speaking with a US military veteran and Holocaust survivor. Mr. Robert Max, a 95-year-old NJ resident, served in the US Army during World War II. During that time, he was captured by the Nazis, interned at several concentration camps and endured indescribable treatment. He managed to survive, against the odds, escaped his captors and was rescued. Mr. Max wrote a book, "The Long March Home: An American Soldier's Life as a Nazi Slave Laborer," detailing his experiences. Additionally, he has spent many years visiting schools, bringing his story to thousands of middle and high school students. At a recent event, he told me it is critical that those who have lived through this time period teach the next generations before that history disappears forever.
