My 9th grade Ethnic Studies students learn about community cultural capital and wealth distribution through a tandem History and English unit. In History, students learn about the economy and social programs during the Great Depression. In English, students read John Steinbeck's Depression-era novel "Cannery Row," a novel that encourages students to examine the differences between wealth and success, and to celebrate the many forms of capital present in low-income communities. Our current class copies of the text are so old and battered that they are essentially unusable; please help us get new copies of this incredible novel! Your donation will benefit current 9th graders and future students for many years to come.
