My class is in the good work of discovering the ability to travel and experience life through the pages of a book. They are also developing an appreciation for reading a good book with friends to discuss. Being a part of a book club deepens our enjoyment of literature by making it a bonding and social experience. Reading The Wild Robot as a class will allow my students to discuss real life concepts of defining family, accepting others different than you, and ethical technology use. We study the theme of survival and technology; The Wild Robot blends these themes masterfully. The gift of group literacy will enrich our learning environment with inclusion and joyful reading. Being able to read this book as a class gives my students special learning moments together. Each student having a book in their hands creates an equitable environment where all students can engage with the text and participate in our book talks.
