Have you ever heard the phrase, "Reading can take you anywhere"? Well, imagine being stuck on a desert island with nowhere to go. For my students, that's the reality many of them live with everyday, unable to visit far away lands or meet magical creatures, all because they can't read. My students range in age from kindergarten to grade 5 with various abilities and interests, but the one thing they have in common is they all struggle with reading. They learn in various ways and at different rates. Knowing those facts and knowing the importance of reading, there is an urgency to help to fill their learning gaps. My students look forward to the day that they can let their imaginations run wild in books that they can read independently. Helping to boost their fluency and confidence is their ticket. We all know books can take you anywhere you want to go.
