My students love books! They want to read and talk about all the latest titles, but they have limited access to the newest books because they are struggling readers. We have a large book library in our classroom and the students love to choose a book to be read aloud. They discuss the chapters together and I want them to have the ability to engage with books of their choice independently. This is why I want to create a listening library in my classroom. This project, with headphones and a cassette/CD player, will allow my students to enjoy books independently and that makes all the difference to them continuing with the adventures and learning books offer. In middle school, kids never want to be different and often act like they don't need help, however, they also love using different technology and feeling like they are "getting out of work." Having a listening library in our room will allow them to enjoy books for fun and books on specific topics for lessons, and have access to books they would not otherwise have access to due to their reading level. I am excited to see their eyes light up when they can have conversations with others about what they "read" and make those educational and interpersonal connections.
