The materials in this grant will help all of my students learn basic music concepts, most specifically through movement activities. Movement is a very integral part of learning music, and the two go very well together. Many of my students are kinesthetic learners, and with these materials will be able to see and feel beat and rhythm. These materials will benefit all students of all ability levels. Many times students feel anxious and nervous about their singing. The Melissa and Doug puppets gives the opportunity for students to "sing through their puppet". I have witnessed that students become unaware that they are using their voice to produce the sound for the puppet and that helps me to recognize their singing voice. The Remo Kid Percussion Lollipop Drums will help to incorporate basic rhythm and marching in the music classroom. With the set of bongos, multiple students will be able to play the bongos at the same time, giving more opportunities for growth in the classroom. The mallets will be used on our drums we have in the classroom, replacing the felt handmade mallets we currently are using. The parachute and stretchy band connect directly with music and movement. With these two materials, students will not only be able to visualize the movement, creating rhythms and a steady beat, but they will also be able to feel the beat and rhythm. Students learn basic concepts in early music development that help to shape the rest of their musical journey throughout life. With the help of the movement activities and accessibility to instruments, students can build their music foundation that will help them for years to come.
