Our school library has created an environment where middle school students grow in their social, emotional and academic areas. Besides a fantastic print and digital book collection and a variety of technology, we have what we call a Makerspace. In this collaborative workspace students are encouraged to build, create and engage by collaborating with their peers in a safe place. Many of our games need to be replaced due to wear and new ones added to the collection; our students are in need of prosocial interactions that the Makerspace will provide. Jenga and Connect Four are favorites of our students, that's why I am hoping to get the giant versions. Games that teach math, social studies and English language arts like Math Blast, Scholastic Race Across the USA and Wordplay would be an asset to our space and classroom teachers could check these out to play in their classrooms. Timeless games like Mancala, Memory and Trouble encourage critical thinking, logic and reasoning in a fun way. Our school is a STEM academy so the game Trekking National Parks is another wonderful addition. We have had a Board Game Club, students can come in before school or stay afterschool to play these games and many teachers have used the games as a behavior incentive. As you can see, this project can benefit in many areas. The Nevada Library Standards place an emphasis on collaboration. Foundational Standard 3 - COLLABORATE: Work effectively with others to broaden perspectives and work toward common goals (3.C Applies information in critical thinking and problem solving). That is why I am asking for your assistance. Thank you for your consideration!
