Do you remember the first book you read that taught you something that would change your life? It's harder now more than ever to spark students' interest in reading. All the items for my project will be used during our independent reading days where students will have ample time to get lost in a book of their own choosing. I want to provide my students with books and audiobooks that will resonate with them and inspire them to seek others' experiences to learn from. These books reflect the culture, background and experiences of many of my students. And audiobooks are just one way for me to increase reading and literacy for my special populations and ELLs. Reading for large amounts of time increases literacy for students by providing them with a framework for good, effective writing, helping kids achieve more academically. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will help them tell their own story.
