One of the most important lessons that a child can learn is the life cycle of a living thing. To be able to see the growth and change in a living breathing animal, is irreplaceable at any age. Growing and hatching small animals can also help promote empathy, curiosity, and a whole new respect for animals. Third grade students are working on many academic goals in the classroom. Being able to see the different life stages of a chicken and learning to respect the fragility of life, is such an important lesson for the students to learn and go home to talk to their parents about what they are learning. We are looking to purchase a class incubator for the students to hatch the chicks next year and for many years to come. The eggs for the project are brought in from a local farm and the chickens that are hatched are either returned to the same farm or other arrangements are made to care for the chicks.
