I am hoping to build a library of STEM materials in my class to foster creativity, problem-solving skills and build a strong science and math sense. These materials will help the students be team players by teaching them to create, compromise and collaborate with each other. Building a solid foundation in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will provide my students with opportunities to engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate in a variety of areas. It will also promote development of critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving skills as well as social skills. I plan to have the student use the kits for some indoor recess centers and for our Friday STEM centers. The students will have choice to explore different kits and build from the explorations. These activities will make math and science both fun and interesting and will possibly encourage students to follow this career path. These highly engaging kits support the third grade curriculum standards in the area of math, science and technology as well as helps address the Social Emotional Learning Requirements.
