In my classroom the carpet is more than a place to come and listen to a story. It is a place where we come together as a community. It is on our carpet is where we share in the news of each other's lives. It in on our carpet where we lie down with a pillow and read books. It is on our carpet where we sit with clipboards and write stories. It is on our carpet where we gather in small groups and work together to solve a Math problem. It is on our carpet where we build blocks during indoor recess with our best friend. So much of our school life happens on the classroom carpet. Our current carpet is well loved. It as thinned out and worn down and has quite a few holes that have been duct taped. We really would love a new classroom carpet. Also, we use our computers daily during Math Workshops. We currently do not have headphones and the noise from the computers is quite distracting to the other small groups.
