In a time when students are being asked to strive higher it is difficult to find nonfiction and instructional text that interests students and is on their level. Scholastic news offers a grade level specific magazine where each student is able to have a copy of a nonfiction article. There articles include text features and information related to science and social studies topics. There is also an online component that is free with the subscription to the magazine that has videos, games and teacher guides to enhance the learning. My students need interesting content, on their grade level to help them become more fluent readers and encourage them to explore science and history. If I can foster a love of reading in my students by getting nonfiction text on their level into their hands they will be more successful this year.
