My students need books that they want to read. When they read something because it interests them, they don't even remember they're reading! They get so engrossed in what they're reading that they fly through the books and build their vocabulary without even knowing it. They will sometimes read books that might be a little too advanced for them by a level, but because they want to read it they do and gain more skills such as higher vocabulary, reading comprehension, and reading fluency. After they're done with the book, they then take a test on it, and they are happy with themselves when they receive 90% and 100%, which helps build their confidence too. By donating, you will not only be sending our classroom much needed books, but you will also be showing my students how important reading is. They will find something they want to read, which will open up a whole new world for them. Once they latch on to a book, they will start broadening their genres and become avid readers.
