We would like to take the 2nd grade students to Nebraska City to experience the apple orchard. While they are there, they will explore Arbor Day Farm’s extensive trail system and bridges while learning about Nebraska’s native flora and fauna. They will continue their journey into the Lied Greenhouse where thousands of tree seedlings get their start. The students will also discover the fascinating world of the honeybee by watching them in action in the observation hive. They will see the apple blossoms and the process of pollination. The objective of this trip is to cover the standard of the life cycle of plants and animals for our science curriculum. This field trip complements our curriculum because it teaches students about the life cycle of bees and trees. The students will be scientists in an apple orchard while applying the skills of classifying and observing. They will also benefit from experiencing an urban area outside of Omaha. They will be able to compare the two cities. With this field trip, the students benefit from a real life experience. They are even able to write about it during writing time - we talk about how writers get their ideas from life experiences. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
