The activity table and chairs will provide a small group reading intervention space for my 7th grade ELA students. Many of my students are reading at least three grade levels behind. This has led to much academic frustration which, in turn, increases disruptive behavior. I want to change the narrative for my students. Our school is located in a rural community where a multiplicity of our parents work multiple jobs. Thus, leaving many of our students to learn and read on their own. By funding this project, you are funding a partnership between school and home. I seek these items to create a small group area in our learning space. Research has shown that small group reading instruction increases reading abilities and reading levels. Small group and guided reading instruction is a rarity in middle schools. With this table and these chairs, reading magic will happen every day. Students will feel inspired, challenged, and encouraged as they increase their ability to read and comprehend complex texts.
