Making math (or STEM subjects) visual is integral to learning maths. Technology provides additional opportunities for learners to see and interact with mathematical concepts to make discoveries with games, simulations, and digital tools. Technology should make our lives easier, not harder. One of the biggest challenges we faced with COVID-19 was that math classrooms had been slow to adopt new technology and heavily relied on paper and pencil activities. Computers have been a time-saving tool in many content areas that have helped all students and have enabled students with learning challenges to access the classroom in ways that may have been out of reach previously. This has not been the case with Math. In fact, online learning in the Math classroom can make things more difficult for students, particularly those with disabilities. The digitizing tablets will help even out the playing field and allow us to better accommodate all students and their learning needs and better prepare them for interacting with a virtual world.
