Do you sing in the car? Play drums with your pen when you can not write? Music is apart of every culture. Music is an important part of learning at the prekindergarten age.
Music and the arts also allow students to express themselves. My students love to sing and dance. They would love to make the music that makes them sing and dance. Students will create their own music in the music center using bells, drums, triangles, tambourines. They will play along with nursery rhymes using the instruments from the music center. Students will connect with their peers as they create music together in other centers. They can bring a tamborine into the home center and play a song for the babies. They can cling a triangle in the puppet center to indicate the beginning of a show. A drum can be used in the block center for sound effects. Incorporating music all over our classroom will awaken their imagination and allow students to make connections to sound and music in everyday life.
According to Neuroscience News, research has shown that "music enhances cognitive abilities such as learning, language, memory and other parts of the brain."
