In a classroom full of three-year-olds, hands on learning is so incredibly important. The little learners in my classroom learn best by touching and doing. They LOVE to engage in messy play, and the joy that they get from their discoveries is contagious! Sand and water play is a favorite in our classroom, and is immensely beneficial to my students who struggle with sensory processing disorders. Playing with sand, water, and other sensory materials allows them to develop their tactile system in a safe and FUN way! Unfortunately we do not currently have a dedicated place for students to engage in these activities, so we do not get to play with sand and water nearly as much as they would like. At the beginning of this year, our area was hit incredibly hard by Hurricane Harvey, displacing many of my students and their families. This has caused a great deal of upheaval and stress in the lives of my students, many of whom do not understand what has happened. Many of my students are still struggling to cope with the changes that the storm brought to their lives. I believe that adding sand and water tables to our classroom would help bring some much needed joy to the lives of my students. With your help, we can bring sensory fun to my classroom!
