My students need more books. I am asking for novels in a variety of genres for my students to read during silent reading time which is at the beginning of class. My students are diverse and will appreciate a diverse classroom library as well. Students will read and complete a weekly blog about their books of choice so they can reflect, as well as spread the joy of reading to others. To do so, my students first need to have access to high-interest young adult novels. The novels that I have selected are a collection of books that my students have been requesting and books that I have selected to include a variety of nonfiction and fiction genres and Lexile levels. My students have made requests from poetry to science fiction and I don’t want them to lose that desire due to our empty bookshelves. Through this project, we can connect reading with technology as students will gain practice with in-person and online discussions, gain control of their learning, as well as become stronger readers and writers.
