Kids love percussion instruments and the lessons I am ready to provide take Music Class to a whole new level as every child in Music Class gets to play along for the entire play time rather than having to share instruments. Students will each get to use their own pair of drum sticks to play a duct tape decorated #10 Aluminum Can (Recycled from our very own Cafeteria), a small plastic surface, and a tambourine to get three distinct sounds. This is truly like giving each child the opportunity to play their own drum set. These instruments will allow our students to practice State Standards that focus on musical form, steady beat, and rhythmic subdivision. With practice our students will become musically fluent. Additionally, research has shown that teaching students to read music notation can really amp up their fluency skills in language arts classes and positively influence division and fraction skills in mathematics classes.
