We use a classroom positive behavior point system. The students earn points throughout the week for following directions, lining up correctly, being a good helper, making good choices, working quietly, being on task, showing compassion, turning in homework, showing effort, and many other positive behaviors. Some behaviors are worth more points than others. The Classroom Reward Store is filled with items that students want to earn points in order to buy. For example, a pencil and eraser are worth 20 behavior points. Pens are worth 30 behavior points. A trip to the candy box is 50 behavior points, where a snack and drink are worth 90 behavior points. Some students will save for two weeks in order to earn a snack and a drink. They get super excited when they reach that point! On Fridays, they get to shop from the Classroom Reward Store. The Classroom Reward Store is set up on a point system. The students use their earned points to purchase items from the store. Students may also save their points on a debit card to use for bigger rewards later on. My students are not only learning responsibility for their actions and choices, but the value of spending and saving in order to purchase what they desire.
