Students might not want to always come to my room, but I want to make it so they don't want to leave. Talking to students about serious topics can be a little rough, that is why I like to break the tension with having books and fun things to hold, play with and use while talking to me. My small class groups helps me relate to the students in fun ways, but having a ball to throw and figure out the next topic would add a new level of fun.I like to have various books in my room so that students can read them, research their feelings using them or so I can read to them. Having words written on paper that describes themselves helps students to see they are not alone. While students are talking they like to fidget and play with something in their hands. Sand is a great tactical resource for students to use and work with while talking to me. I do not think that my students have seen a zen garden and I can't wait to show them one. The liquid timer is simply amazing and has a great calming effect. Students will be amazed watching the timer and be able to sit still while we talk.
