Having 5 laptops in my classroom will allow me to address the need of technology in a STEM Classroom. As a science coach I teach all grades from K-8, but I am most often teaching in the 5th grade and the 8th grade levels since I am preparing students in those grade levels to take the science test in Florida. Research has proven the effectiveness of small group instruction. I love to break my classes into small groups to create stations or centers where students can work collaboratively. Having 5 laptops in my classroom will allow me to use them in one of two ways. I could provide each group with a laptop to do their research in the internet, create PowerPoint presentations, or use the many digital resources available to my district such as BrainPOP, Gismos, or Studyjams. Another way I could use it would be to create a technology center where 5 students can work at the computers while other small groups are in a teacher led center or conducting a small experiment. Although everyone knows the importance of teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), it is very difficult to include technology in my lessons without computers. Please, help me put the T in STEM!
