Today's students have the world at their fingertips. Technology is all around them. They probably learned how to swipe on an I-Pad before they learned how to talk. But all this technology has also left holes in their social learning. Today's students aren't usually seen playing outside with their friends. Therefore they aren't interacting, communicating, or solving problems with their peers as much. However, the workforce for our 21st Century learners will except them to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and team players. Kickball will give students the opportunity to work toward a goal, solve problems, and learn teamwork-and it's FUN! I would like to teach my students how to play kickball, how to work together as a team, and how to be a good sport- on and off the field. By learning these skills on the kickball field, I believe it will transfer into my classroom. Also, as their teacher I always look for opportunities to weave in reading whenever possible, so I would like to include a few books to entice and inspire their love for kickball! Thanks for helping me make this a "HOMERUN" for my students!
