The desire to have a new book, the fresh smell and scent of untouched pages, is always a desire we want our students to have lingering within their minds. This project will turn that longing and desire into an actual reality. When doing novel studies in our classroom, we believe that exposure, engagement, and expectations will greatly increase if students have access to their own individual text. In our inclusive classroom, we recognize that there is a variety of learners who need to be reached and that it is important to have a variety of ways to reach them. Having individual books will be one of those ways. It will contribute to greater access, giving students opportunities to follow along with audio text, read on their own, read with each other, etc. We anticipate that individual copies for each student will not only increase their enjoyment and engagement but also advance their reading skills. They will also be exposed to a young child who, similar to their own age, has to learn the importance of motivating and challenging himself as he seeks to find inspiration to persevere and find answers during hard times. As we know, all students do and will face moments of conflict and hard decisions/times.This means that students will get a ton out of this book as they connect the story to their lives. We believe this is a great novel to use in our classroom.
