As a reading intervention teacher, I feel like I have the best job at my school. Throughout the day, I get to help groups of struggling students learn how to become better readers and writers. However, after many years of use, one of my most vital teaching tools, one of the "well-loved" four class laptops, finally fell apart. My students need a sturdy lap top and pair of headphones in order to write essays and news articles, research science and social studies subjects, and connect to educational reading sites. A new laptop will once again allow my first, second, and third graders get greater access to educational literacy sites and my intermediate students to work on compositions and news articles for the school newspaper. My students' learning has been affected by the loss of the class laptop. The students in my intervention classes have had to wait long periods of time before it is "their turn" to get on the computer. The students in my after-school journalism club, like the majority of adults, prefer composing their articles on a computer. A new lap top will make a vast improvement in my students' school lives.
