The Cat Cabin will be used at both the elementary school and the junior high school to help our students cope with conflict and angry outbursts that negatively affect their education. The trauma our students have experienced can effect that brain chemistry in a negative way. Some of our students need to be taught self-regulation, how to cope with anxiety, calming techniques, and self-regulation. This room will be a less visually stimulating area that will be calming and the sensory objects will help keep the student's mind off of the current conflict he or she is experiencing. The alternative seating, dim lighting, soft music, and sensory items have the ability to help educators short-circuit the areas of the brain that are sending "angry" messages and move our students to a calmer and peaceful place so they are able to return to the classroom. Using a peaceful room with sensory objects we will be able to take a student out of an environment that may be triggering negative behavior and let them calm down in the sensory spot.
