At the elementary level, students are lacking exposure to and interest in computer science. In our growing economy, with advances in technology, and many industry jobs based in computer science, we are hoping to develop an interest in computer science at an early age. These Dash robots are a great curricular tool to help accomplish a love for computer science. In connection with iPad apps, dash activities can easily be differentiated to varying grade levels. Students are able to create and choose the app that best fits their knowledge set and comfort level. By coding their robots to do certain tasks, we ask the students to think critically about aspects of computer science and how to relate it to something that is engaging on all levels.
