We are in the midst of reorganizing our library to better suit our students' needs. We're adding comfortable chairs, movable tables, and flexible shelving to make sure that our space works for everyone. Our library is used for all kinds of things, from classes to after-school clubs to staff meetings. These mobile shelves for our picture book collection will allow us to easily rearrange our space to accommodate the many activities that happen in the library. Most importantly, these shelves will help our youngest students access our picture book collection. Right now, our picture books are on tall shelves with the book spines facing out and very little room for new titles. As a result, our students rely on teachers to find books for them, even when they would like to be more independent. These shelves are low to the ground, so primary students can reach them. All of the shelving is face-out, so students can flip through the book covers to find something appealing. The eight wells on each cart allow us to sort books by genre, so it will be easy to find alphabet books, dinosaurs, superheroes, or whatever else our students love to read.
