College Signing Day is a celebration of seniors submitting their intent to enroll and completing their FAFSA applications. Seniors come through the counseling center to take pictures, network with other students who are going to the same university/college, and make motivational letters or videos for underclassmen. The materials requested are necessary to help create and distribute promotional material encouraging students to complete their college apps, FAFSA, and be aware of upcoming deadlines. College Signing Day is an event hosted every year by former First Lady Michelle Obama, and we are thrilled to take part in a network of over 1,200 events nationwide (in all 50 states!) right here in National City. The laptop will be raffled off to one graduating senior who receives free or reduced-price lunch who has submitted their intent to enroll at a university, in hopes that they have the necessary tools to be successful in college. The speaker system will be used to promote college awareness activities in the quad during lunchtime The colored printer and ink will be used to create colorful, attention-grabbing promotional items. Celebrating our seniors' success means more than a party—it means they know we are proud of their hard work, invested in their futures, and excited to see what they do next. FAFSA Frenzy connects to college signing day by encouraging seniors to submit their completed financial aid applications to help pay for their post-secondary education. SUHI celebrated its first college signing day last year (2017). Due to donations, we were able to give students t-shirts, pizza, and raffle off two laptops. Our hope is to continue this tradition by raising enough funds to support this event.
