Reading Intervention is an imperative time during the day that students get to focus on academic reading skills. What better way to focus on improving reading skills while reading books that relates to cultural events that hit close to home? My students need high interest novels that are culturally relevant to their lives. I believe when students read stories where the characters mirror image of themselves it resonate in them; culturally relevant books make reading personal to their lives. In return, it will not only benefit the students academically but socially. These books will help promoting of confidence building, viewing the world from the eyes of their peers, and allowing students to engage in authentic discussions while offering an opportunity for personal reflection.
