I would like my students to experience a material in the art classroom that they have never tried before, and open them up to what art can be. My students haven't used clay in the art classroom and I'm requesting a variety of polymer clays and acrylic paints for projects and design creations. Our location has a connection with Dale Chihuly and his artwork, some of which is at our local art museum. It would be an excellent cultural link for my students to see examples of his work, even in their own city, and learn about his artistic process and glass making. With these requested materials, they can have the opportunity to not only use clay, but see that clay can be manipulated and painted with inspiration from Chihuly's work. All of which will really make the art world and the ability to create come alive to them.
