Students learn best when they can physically interact with what they are learning. Hands-on experiences are extremely important and sometimes difficult to accomplish in a math class. These manipulatives will help my 7th graders learn math through doing and playing with concepts. These manipulatives will help my lessons come alive and provide concrete examples of otherwise abstract concepts. The dry erase graphing boards will help me to quickly identify struggling students by allowing students to complete multiple problems without having to worry about paper. The pattern blocks will help students work with fractions in a hands-on approach. There are many games and activities available to teach tricky fraction concepts using these manipulatives. The linking cubes will be used to teach abstract concepts such as combining like terms and solving algebraic equations. This visual will be extremely helpful for students that struggle with algebra. The two color counters are an amazing resource for introducing the concept of positive and negative numbers for students. These will be used to work through operations with integers. The folding geometric shapes are a great tool to show students the 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional properties of shapes. These will help students discover volume and surface area of 3D figures. The Anglegs sets will help my students discover the attributes of different shapes, especially triangles, which are an important focus in 7th grade geometry.
