Theatre is a unique and immersive learning experience. Participating as an audience member is enriching to both the mind and soul. Experiencing live theatre promotes imagination, critical thinking, problem solving, an understanding of our own intuitive and personal responses, and an awareness of various ideas and possibilities. Live shows teach children how to appreciate people of all kinds and how to respect other points of view. Theatre allows you to step into someone else's shoes and see life from their point of view. This teaches young people lessons of empathy and cultural relativity. This experience is necessary for our Drama students in order to complete their Louisiana benchmark standards. Theatre standards include creative expression, historical and cultural perspective and aesthetic perception. This field trip provides an opportunity for low income students to attend a Broadway show and open their minds to endless creative possibilities and build empathy toward other human beings. Students will also practice patience as audience members. Theatre helps children adjust and realize something can be entertaining without a constant change of scenery. They will learn to sit quietly, respect others and pay attention. Theatre exposes young people to new vocabulary and ways of communicating. Theatre is a safe way to expose kids to difficult situations and show them first hand how to handle these situations. I hope with your help we can make this possible.
