They need center manipulatives that offer meaningful learning experiences where they can work independently or collaboratively to meet literacy goals. Items such as instant learning centers will help them with their phonemic awareness skills. The "read to self" phones from Lakeshore Learning will help them develop into proficient readers. The materials improve student focus and attention when they are listening to their own voice by self-monitoring. Items such as Road to Reading activity will help them with skills needed for reading such as completing alphabet puzzles to help them learn letter sounds. My kinders are very hard-working but sometimes need a break from learning. I am also asking for items to place in the “cool down” corner where students can feel safe to go to when upset/angry or just need a break from learning. (Items ex: stress balls, geoboards, and theraputty) Stress balls and theraputty will help them relax. Geoboards will not only help them relax, but help them learn about different shapes and their characteristics.
