Yoga will support the educational and physical development of our students with Autism Spectrum Disorders who have difficulty with sensory integration and behavior. Yoga incorporates therapeutic strategies and sensory-motor techniques that are especially meaningful for students with sensory processing disorders. It aids in the development of the mind and body connection to produce optimal learning for the students. The yoga mats will be used by the students and the staff who support them on an on-going basis for group yoga sessions. In addition, the yoga mats will be available for students during times of emotional upset. Yoga will provide an opportunity to practice breathing and other therapeutic techniques that can be carried over into practice in real-world settings and situations.
