The vocabulary gap with our students in tremendous. It is not helpful that the students do not have a dictionary to use everyday to keep at their desk. This decreases the likelihood that students will see it as a valuable tool, because they will perceive that we don't believe it is valuable enough to provide. With consistent usage, students will become more comfortable with the dictionary and be more successful on their school work and standardized testing. I will use the dictionaries as a class set so that every students has access to a dictionary, of high quality, daily. The Merrian-Webster dictionaries have proven themselves to be useful and accurate, not to mention use friendly for high school students.
