Hi there! I am an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher at Amalia Castro Elementary School (P.S. 142) on the Lower East Side in New York City. Our school is a Title 1 elementary school, serving grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Over 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and about a third of the students at our school have disabilities. I teach 30 English Language Learners from grades K-5. I work with students individually and in small groups to support them in reading and writing. My students come to school full of energy each day ready to work hard, despite the challenges of learning a second language and (for some of them) living in a new country. I am continually impressed by my students' determination and enthusiasm to learn new words, to read more and more books, and to become stronger writers. My students and I truly appreciate your support!
