The outcomes to this project being funded are numerous and significant. I believe building a common language and knowledge base in a classroom are the primary means to create a supporting and excited attitude toward both community and learning. This is why I choose to do reading instruction as a whole group and not separated by ability. Finding great texts accommodating many interests and abilities is a challenge, but "Naturally Curious" is a special opportunity. The book is written by a local author and teaches students about our specific environment. The book features beautiful, engaging prose about nature and has as-you'd-experience it photographs of plants and animals to make the writing infinitely relatable. The book is broken down into month-by-month descriptions of what I'll be able to take students outside to try to discover for themselves immediately. I love the integration of science content with literacy, which is done expertly in this book. I look forward to teaching this text month-to-month and year after year! Thanks for your consideration.
