People of all ages have always been fascinated with superhero movies and comics. The genre has been a large part of American culture, but for this project my students are going to look a bit closer at the superheroes they have worshiped. This project calls for a critical analysis of the under and misrepresentation of certain groups of people in the superhero genre. As we read and analyze critiques of their traditional representations in comic books, students will also be exposed to more diverse representations of superheroes. More diverse representations will positively impact students by showing them that anyone can be a hero. Even someone who looks like them. Students will read comic books that feature heroes of different backgrounds, religions, races, and ethnicities. Representation matters. Investing in the comic books requested for this project will help expose my students to a world where they can pick up a comic book and literally anyone could be the hero.
