I teach in an inner city district where funding is extremely limited. In my classroom I have very low functioning nonverbal students which requires a lot of creativity on my part having limited resources. My students require a lot of hands-on activities which primarily have been created by myself. I would love to have the opportunity to use these supplies to enhance my lessons. In order to create a comfortable learning environment, I need a rug to allow them to sit on for quiet time and reading. We began a new math program which is too advanced for my students, but with the Rekenrek to 100 and numbers to 100 match up, I would be able to break down each lesson using a more hands-on approach. My students are primarily nonverbal and I do not have the proper materials to service them. I teach mainly through lecturing now with a new carpet and some materials I will be able to sit down in small groups creating a comfortable learning environment.
