The opportunity for students to move during learning is priceless. Because we integrate students from the autism class, alternative seating is a must. Having flexible seating choices during small group instruction gives students the chance to work comfortably in a collaborative setting. We make all of these options available to all students of all abilities. Success is achieved when students feel safe and comfortable. This is a helpful for children of all needs. My students are young and full of wrestles energy; they can tip and rock in seats without the danger of falling and hurting themselves. Within small groups, students participate in building and engineering, independent reading, and teacher directed instruction. In these centers students will sit wobble stools for easy movement and reach while collaborative activities are engaged. They also require use of their core muscles to maintain stability and offers frequent change in positions for the restless students. Our integrated autism students aren’t the only ones who will benefit from them.
