The materials I chose help my students by giving them the resources they need to extend the teacher component of a lesson to the small group and individual hands-on exploration of the lesson which are generally taught with text and worksheets. My students require hands-on materials to help them to grow as learners and to keep pace with their peers from all over the world. One area of my project addresses the great difficulty my students have determining the Main Idea of a Text and being able to distinguish other text structures which is a key Grade 3 standard. The Lakeshore High Interest Intervention Reading Folders provide intervention support for all of the main text structures. Quality leveled reading books will assist with this effort as well. Similarly, I hope to address the development of problem solving and analytical skills in mathematics which are key skills in Grade 3 math. While many students have basic number sense and some familiarity with operations the Lakeshore Math Instant Learning Centers will help me and my students go deeper into the standards and develop and refine these skills in an effort to turn them into mathematicians. Individual and group hands-on work is instrumental to my students understanding and applying concepts. Materials such as those that I chose from your offerings are so helpful in motivating students to put in the extra effort and attention required to be successful!
