A listening center in our Kindergarten classroom will help my students improve their reading skills while nurturing their love of reading. With a listening center the students are able to follow along with the audiobooks and independently listen to books that they wouldn't necessarily be able to read on their own. It makes all books readily accessible to them during their independent center time. Providing my class with the different technology to listen to books, either as a group or independently, will give the students a variety of experiences to help them develop a love of reading and storytelling. Hearing books read aloud also helps them to understand the concepts of expression and tone while increasing fluency. A dramatic play center will enhance their social skills, imagination, and creativity. Children learn empathy by pretending to be someone else and they build self-esteem when they realize they can be anyone!
