Expanding our classroom libraries makes for a richer reading workshop experience. Students have access to a number of titles/genres from which to choose, and they are able to have ownership in the process. Students select titles that interest them without having to purchase the books themselves or read a teacher-assigned text. Our rationale aligns with a quote from Dylan Thomas: "My education was the liberty I had to read indiscriminately and all the time, with my eyes hanging out." We would like to open new worlds to students through books, and we look forward to reading together and discussing the texts during reading workshop.
