These resources will help develop a calming corner within my office for students to use. The purpose of the calming corner is to afford students the opportunity to de-escalate when upset in a comfortable and safe space. Students will be able to learn coping skills as well as practice those skills in this welcoming environment. The main goal is to have a student learn coping skills within my classroom and then to be able to use them within their own classroom thus resulting in students being able to de-escalate on their own. My hope is to decrease the frequency in students needing to use the calming corner within my classroom and to have them increase their copings skills to be used within their own classroom. By donating to this project, the items will allow my students to feel comfortable while calming down. The use of bean bag chairs as well as the large pillows will help them to feel comforted during their moment of sadness, anger, etc.
