The way math is currently taught does not take into consideration the ease at which we have access to calculators. Students are still expected to do things like multi-digit multiplication and long division by hand and are not taught calculator skills. The end result is having students who struggle with computation and with using the calculator to help themselves succeed. Funding this project will fund students' learning a basic skill: using a calculator properly. It will also build confidence in girls who struggle with basic skills and need help computing with larger numbers. It takes away the worry that they will mess up and helps ensure they understand the process of what they are doing.
