Great literature can lend itself to great projects. Project-based learning is what we are all about at my school! 60 third graders will be using two great Novels to create cupboard dioramas, make 3-D main characters, and do oral presentations that include both Language Arts and Social Studies skills. Roald Dahl's The BFG is a magical friendship that also teaches kindness between two unlikely souls. This novel will inspire journaling, note-taking, and will start the Acts of Kindness projects toward the kids in lower grade levels. Indian in the Cupboard will also inspire students to create their own cupboards and story reenactments.
